TWF2024-05 Saturday Walk - Bwlch Three Peaks

£9.00
TWF Walks and Events will be on-sale in early 2025

A 3 Boot Walk.

From Buckland Hill we descend through Bwlch and we follow a path up onto an ancient ridge path along Cefn Moel with fine views of the Black Mountains, the Usk Valley and Llangorse Lake. We descend back to Cathedine and to visit the ruins of 13th century Castell Blaenllynfi. Our route then takes up an old Roman route up Allt yr Esgair whose summit is crowned by a bronze-age burial cairn and an iron-age camp. Some of the finest views of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) can be enjoyed from this summit before we descend to the wooded slopes of the Allt, passing the ruin of enigmatic hunting lodge. Our route then takes us to Buckland Hill and the place where Tolkien holidayed and drew inspiration from the place names and landscapes for his books. We climb on a forestry track and then on to enjoy views down the Usk valley from our final peak on Buckland Hill before descending back to the starting point.
