  • You can see how we grade the walks by reading our Walk Grading information

  • Note timings and the route taken may vary, depending on weather or other conditions and the overall speed of the group.

  • Note that booking fees are not refundable except in the case that the event is cancelled.

  • Please note that, due to it being lambing season, we are not accepting dogs on any of our walks this year.

Participating in Events

We are committed to running the Talgarth Walking Festival safely, whilst also hoping to ensure that all participants have a very enjoyable time. Please have consideration for other people and keep mobile phone use to a minimum. We also ask all walkers not to smoke while on guided walks, out of consideration for others and to avoid undue risk of fire in the countryside.

  • Clothing - You will be expected to ensure that you are properly equipped for the walks. It is essential to have warm, windproof layers and good waterproofs (jacket and trousers), a warm hat and gloves for cold weather and a hat with a brim for sun protection. Please avoid jeans and trainers, especially if you are joining a hill walk or the weather and ground conditions are poor.

For Easy walks wear comfortable clothes that enable you to move freely. Flat shoes or boots with grip on the soles must be worn to cope with wet, muddy and uneven ground.

For Moderate, Energetic and Strenuous walks, strong shoes or boots with good grip must be worn, with boots specifically designed for walking being recommended. On the harder walks you will need proper hiking boots with good support for rough and steep ground.

Please note: Walkers may be turned away from a walk if they are not properly equipped for the conditions on the day.

  • Accessibility and Terrain - the majority of our walks are over rough terrain and away from paved paths. For this reason alone, most of our walks are not suitable for wheelchair access. Where a walk route might be considered suitable for wheelchair access, we will make that clear in the walk description.

  • Safety - Your leader’s duty is to the group. If you choose to leave the group at any time, your leader is no longer responsible for you. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the walk leader may change the route or reduce the length of the walk in the interests of the health and safety of the group. If the event is cancelled, we will endeavour to phone participants as soon as possible. Young people under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • Accuracy of the Itinerary - Although it is our intention to operate the walks programme as published, it may be necessary to make adaptations as a result of changes to public transport schedules, climatic conditions or other operational factors. As a consequence, the order and the duration of the day may vary from those outlined. You should be aware that some events may be beyond our control and we would ask for your patience. In the unlikely event of an extreme weather forecast, we may need to make some last minute cancellations. If this happens, we will endeavour to make phone contact with all affected participants on the day. If in any doubt please ring the Festival on 07943 616453

  • Numbers - We have chosen to limit numbers for each walk, offering a smaller and friendlier experience than would be possible with larger groups. Generally, easy walks accept 20 people, moderate accept 16, whilst energetic and strenuous walks are limited to 12 people.

  • Medical Conditions - Please inform the Walk Leader if you have any pre-existing medical condition of which he/she should be aware and for which you may be carrying medication (eg diabetes).

  • Food and Drink - Please ensure that you have enough water and food for the length of the walk. You will need to bring a packed lunch for full day walks. Some events include meals and this is clearly stated in the event details.

  • Dogs - Please note that dogs are not permitted on the walks because of the lambing season and ground-nesting birds.

  • Timing - Please arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the start of each walk. Walks will start within 10 minutes of the given time whether or not all participants have arrived.

  • Participation Statement - Talgarth 'Walkers are Welcome' Group recognises that hiking, hill walking, running and mountaineering are activities which carry a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.

  • Inclusivity Statement - Talgarth 'Walkers are Welcome' Group aims to provide a warm welcome to all. We are committed to diversity and to avoiding any unjustified discrimination on any grounds.
